Intro

Given the changes to all aspects of life, the 2020 planned KickOff@3 Tournaments have been postponed until it is safe to hold them. At KickOff@3 we understand that for many families and individuals across the country this is a very difficult time. There are financial, health and social difficulties being faced by many. Not only is this time a challenge for families and individuals, but it is also presenting increasing challenges for charities. As the majority of fundraising halted overnight, charities are working incredibly hard to come up with new ways of generating income.  Embedded within the KickOff@3 ethos are three fundamental principles: supporting charities, promoting health and wellbeing and providing opportunities for our young people.

 

KickOff@3 are just as committed to fulfilling our aims as we were pre-lockdown and will be post-lockdown. Working together with our team we have come up with a new lockdown project called SpinOff@3 and we implore all forces that were scheduled to run KickOff@3 Tournaments to now look at running this new project during lockdown.

 

SpinOff@3 is a cycling challenge for anyone, that can be done whilst socially distancing, with the chance for contestants to win goodies, all whilst raising money for charity. Although it is designed for cycles, anything with wheels can be used (except cars) such as scooters, skateboards and roller skates.

Blueprint

SpinOff@3 is a cycling challenge that can be completed whilst social distancing which encourages people of all ages (but especially young people) to be active, spend time with their household members and support charities.

 

The challenge

The challenge is broken down into sub-challenges which give people flexibility depending upon their individual circumstances. The sub challenges are:

·       Tricycle 3 laps of your garden/lengths of your road (toddlers)     

·       Cycle for 3 miles over 3 days (for younger children/older people)

·       Cycle for 3 hours over a week

·       Cycle for 30 miles over a week

·       Cycle as a 3, with members of your household, 3 times in a week

 

When

The start date is the 3rd June until the 10th June. We believe this should give organisers enough time to promote the challenge. This challenge will run for a week, giving all contestants adequate time to complete the larger challenges.

 

Entry

Contestants will pay to enter any sub-challenges they wish to at a fee of £5 per sub-challenge. We suggest using sites such as EventBrite to collect fees as this will enable you to track who has entered which sub-challenge. Each force can choose which charity will benefit from your SpinOff@3, just like with KickOff@3. Forces may wish to divide sub-challenges into age categories such as 5 and under, 6 - 10, 11 - 16, 17 - 25, 26 - 65, 66 and over. Organisers should provide a medal/trophy/prize for the winner of each sub-challenge and each age category (if using). If you use all 5 sub-challenges and 6 age categories, then that is 30 medals/trophies/prizes. We encourage organisers to also secure prizes for a raffle, which every contestant will automatically be entered into after registration and payment. 

 

Challenge completion

For demonstrating you have completed the challenge/s, please use technology to demonstrate they have completed the challenge. There are a wide variety of apps that track exercise. Most smart phones will come with a health tracker already installed but there are plenty of others (https://www.cyclingweekly.com/group-tests/best-cycling-apps-143222). Alongside these are activity tracking watches and apps such as FitBit. We suggest you track your cycling via an app, then to screenshot it and submit it via email along with optional photos and videos taken during the challenge.

Each sub-challenge will be judged on any/all of following criteria:

6.      Best costume

Medals/Trophies/Prizes

What prizes the winners of each challenge gets is down to the organisers. It may be you want to purchase medals which are easy to post, or it could be a number of digital gift cards which you are able to email to the winners. Whatever route you go down, please take into consideration social distancing and contamination possibilities.

 

FAQs

Q: When does contestant evidence need to be submitted by?

Answer: Evidence must have been submitted by 00.01 on the 11th June 2020

 

Q: Do contestants have to complete every single judging criteria for my sub-challenge?

Answer: No, there is no pressure to complete all of these, they are just guidance. If they want to be creative in other ways when submitting your completion evidence, then please do. We suggest judges look for fun, creative individuals.

 

Q: How do they submit their completion and judging evidence?

Answer: Please instruct contestants to email all your evidence to an email of your choosing.  Please ensure you instruct them to include the contestant name, age and contact details for every sub-challenge submission, that these details match the details they gave when registering. If they are submitting photos/videos of yourself, please instruct them to state whether they give consent (parents/guardians for under 18s) for these to be shared on social media. Any media provided will not be shared unless express permission is received and will only be used to judging purposes.

 

Q: When will the results be announced?

Answer: We suggest the winners for each sub-challenge and age category are announced on the evening of Sunday 14th June (time TBC) depending upon your resources.

 

Q: Should we do something for the people who don't win sub-challenges?

 

Answer: This is up to you but we encourage you to automatically enter contestants into a raffle and consider creating a certificate of completion which can be emailed out.
